iFLUX Reduces PFAS Detection Limits by Factor of 10

As an innovative company, iFLUX is constantly searching for the best solutions for its customers. As part of our passive flux measurements solutions (iFLUX Sampler), we have recently identified a specific, high-performance sorbent matrix that can be used for PFAS mass flux measurements.

Validation Testing

The matrix in question has been subjected to iFLUX validation tests with our partner SGS. The validation tests showed that even at very low concentrations, the PFAS recovery rates on the matrix are sufficient to achieve quantitative mass flux results.

This also made it possible to reduce the laboratory's limit of quantification (LOQ) by a factor of 10. With the previous sorbent, the laboratory's quantification limit had been set at 20 µg/kg. According to the new tests carried out, this limit has been reduced to 2 µg/kg.

Expanded Analytical Range

In addition, a larger number of PFAS compounds have successfully passed these validation tests, enabling us to expand our PFAS analytical range. The tests also show that the adsorption capacity of the new sorbent matrix is superior to the previous one.

Enhanced Hydraulic Properties

Finally, the new matrix has a monodisperse texture, allowing us to estimate flow field distortion to derive aquifer mass flux more accurately. This property guarantees the consistency of its hydraulic conductivity throughout its use, avoiding the Brazil nut effect or granular segregation, where particles of different sizes separate due to vibration, with larger ones rising due to differences in inertia and void-filling dynamics.

Benefits for PFAS Monitoring

This ensures even higher quality PFAS mass flux measurement results, which benefits our customers and helps us to better understand the complex patterns of PFAS dissemination in groundwater.

The improved detection capabilities support environmental professionals in their monitoring and assessment work, providing more reliable data for decision-making processes.
